The Ritz Cinemas is a Heritage-listed Sydney landmark. Built in 1937, and steeped in history and tradition, it is one of only two remaining original Art Deco cinemas in the city, holding a cherished place in the local cultural scene.
The recent refurbishment presented a unique challenge of balancing the cinemas heritage with modern acoustic solutions. A stunning Art Deco-inspired jigsaw design - originally planned with hundreds of individual acoustic PET pieces - was achieved through innovatively digitally printing on large acoustic panels. This not only saved an immense amount of time on manufacturing and installation, but preserved the building's legacy and ensured superior acoustic performance (the panels required no additional substrate prior to installation, maintaining their integrity).
